Wings by Aprilynne Pike

I give this book a 3 out of 5 stars.
Description: Aprilynne Pike’s WINGS is the first of four books about an ordinary girl named Laurel who discovers she is a faerie sent among humans to guard the gateway to Avalon. When Laurel is thrust into the midst of a centuries-old battle between faeries and trolls, she’s torn between a human and a faerie love, as well as her loyalties to both worlds.
I was so excited when I won this book from J. Kaye’s Book Blog. I have been hearing about it everywhere and it sounded great. It was also perfect timing as my online book club chose this as July’s book.
It was an interesting story and had a unique take on faeries that I had not read before. I thought the idea was a little strange at first but it grew on me. It was also a nice integration of the stories of Oberon and King Arthur being involved in the realm of the fairies.
There were some parts which were predictable like knowing that Tam had a thing for Laurel and she would have to choose between him and David and that there was something off with Barnes. The one thing I have not been able to figure out and maybe I’m reading too much into it is Chelsea. Is she really just a good friend of David’s and wants him to be happy or is she going to be a threat to Laurel? I felt like it was sort of being foreshadowed that she will play a bigger role when she invited Laurel out to the lighthouse.
I definitely cannot wait to hear more about the reason Laurel was placed with the humans and what the trolls have planned.

Ah, thanks for the review. It looks fun. I have been debating picking this up. I’m not usually a fantasy or YA fan but it looks fun. I didn’t know it was part of a series. I guess I’ll have to get on it sooner rather than later if I’m going to jump in!

I did see that yesterday. Miley Cyrus definitely isn’t how I was picturing Laurel.

I just heard the news about the movie and Miley Cyrus the other day. I read it on another blog, I’m just stumped on remembering which one! I haven’t read this book yet, but I would like to. I don’t know the characters, but I don’t particularly like Miley Cyrus…just don’t let my girls know I said that. Hannah Montanta is their hero!

Miley Cyrus is definitely not how I pictured the main character!

I haven’t read any books about faeries yet, so this will definitely be interesting. It’s a nice take to include some history in it though. There was so much hype around it when Wings was coming out. I hope it’ll be good!

I like faeries and a unique take is always nice, strange is usually good too so this looks really good. I just hope I don’t picture Miley Cyrus in the role when I read the book now.
