Musing Mondays August 10

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about publishing houses …
Do you have a favourite publishing house — one that puts out books that you constantly find yourself wanting to read? If so, who? And, what books have they published that you’ve loved? (question courtesy of MizB)
Honestly, before I started blogging I never noticed which publishing houses put out which books. Now that I’ve been in contact with several different publishing houses I started paying more attention to this. So far I noticed I really enjoy HarperTeen and Penguin teen books. For adult books I don’t have a real favorite. I’ve read great books from a lot of different publishing houses and haven’t noticed more from one or the other. The authors and book blurbs matter more for me in picking up a book rather than the publishing house. I will say though that if it’s an unknown author I will probably be more likely to pick up a book from a well larger publishing hosue than a small one.

I don’t really think much about the publisher, but if I’m reading a particular series, it could be under one publisher. But, if that series switched publishers, I’d go with the new publisher.

That’s a good point about “new” authors. I don’t know anybody who pays any real attention to publishers when choosing a book. Here’s my response.

Nope, looking at who published my highest rated books on Library Thing, there is no real pattern. I follow the authors I love, wherever they are published.

I agree with you all. I wonder if there are people out there who are for some reason more loyal to a publishing house than to particular authors?

I’ve become a fan of Algonquin, mostly because I love Southern Lit. But I don’t have any real publishing house loyalty. I’m a browser…I just read what looks interesting!

I think Penguin is trust worthy as far as classics are concerned.

I seem to notice that I’ve been reading a lot of books from Hatchette publishing lately. It may be a coincidence, but just something I noticed.
Great question!!

I can honestly say I don’t have a “favorite” publishing house. My interests are so varied and expansive that it would be impossible to frequent just one. I will say that so far everything that I’ve read from Scholastic has been a winner. Doesn’t make them my fav just shows that they have a good selection of books that I like.
