Darcy and Anne by Judith Brocklehurst
Description: He’s Like a Big Brother to her…
Fitzwilliam Darcy never disliked his cousin Anne de Bourgh. He certainly never wanted to marry her, but when she shows up at Pemberley along, of course he won’t send her back to her miserable life at Rosings
Without his Help, She’ll Never Get Away From her Mother…
Anne has never had a chance to figure out what she wants for herself, until a fortuitous accident on the way to Pemberley separates Anne from her formidable mother. With her stalwart cousin Darcy and his lovely wife Elizabeth on her side, she begins to feel she might be able to spread her wings…
But Lady Catherin’s pride and determination to find Anne a suitable husband threaten to overwhelm Ann ’es newfound freedom and budding send of self. And without Darcy and Elizabeth ’s help, Anne will never have a chance to find true love…
This book was a pleasure to read. It’s short but a cute story and was the first I sequel to Pride and Prejudice I read that did not focus on Lizzie and Darcy. Anne was a delightful character and it was wonderful seeing her work to free herself from her mother, Lady Catherine. Lady Catherine herself stayed true to her characterization in the original Pride and Prejudice and was not likeable in any sense.
The only odd thing for me was in the last few chapters after watching the story unfold the author suddenly addresses the reader directly. This just struck me as out of place as it happened suddenly and felt jarring. It might have made more sense if the book opened up with the author addressing the reader and then closing in the same way.
Other than that little thing this was overall an enjoyable read.

Oh, you’ve GOT to try Gaelen Foley’s books if you have some! Definitely! They’re soooo good!

Debbie, I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed this one. I have a serious addiction with P&P fan fic so it looks like this one will get bumped up my TBR list!

MizB-I will definitely check them out.
Lori-I think I am almost P&P sequeled out. I have two more, Loving Mr. Darcy to read and P&P& Zombies and then I think it’s time for a break

Debbie, I think I have a mutant gene or something b/c I never seem to get P&P sequeled out! I am about halfway thru the prequel to Loving Mr. Darcy (And Two Shall Become One) (it’s nice, mindless reading for the true Darcy/Elizabeth lover). I think my favorite(s) so far have been the Carrie Bebris Mr. and Mrs. Darcy mysteries. Lots of fun and Elizabeth and Darcy do more than roll around in the bedroom (not that I find that so terrible).

LOL. I’ll have to check out Carrie Bebris. Thanks!

I remember reading that bit where she addresses the author and thinking “yep, there is still a while to go!” lol.
Glad you enjoyed this one too, it was short & sweet

Although I’m not usually a fan of P&P (or Austen) pin-offs, I am interested in reading this one, hopefully soon.

Glad you enjoyed the book. I’m not sure if I could enjoy one not focusing on the main characters…maybe i’ll give it a shot!

Heather-I thought the same thing but it was nice to find out what happens in a sense to the other characters.

I’m really hesitant to read P&P sequels because I feel like no one will be able to equal Jane Austed but I am interested in Anne’s story. I always felt sorry for her. Her mom was so mean and controlling.

I love that name Catherine (its mine, LOL). I kind of like the stories too that don’t focus on Elizabath and Darcy, cuz I think I wonder so much about the other characters. So this one will be worth a try too!

I love Pride and Prejudice but some of the spinoffs have been quite disappointing, maybe I will check this one out since the focus is on Anne (which I find kind of interesting)

I’m interested into reading any sequels to Pride and Prejudice. It is such a great story, can others compare? I’m willing to give this book a shot though! That point you mentioned about the author addressing the reader was quite odd. I wonder why she did it that way? o_O

P&P is my favorite book and a lot of the sequels have been disappointing. Seems like recently there has been some good ones. I did just get about halfway through another one but am going to stop. I couldn’t get into it. I will be posting a review of that one soon.
