October in Review
October was an extremely slow reading month for me. I’ve really fell out of touch with the book blogging community as things are crazy at work, the two kiddos are keeping me busy and with my husband out of work for over a year I’m busy coming up with ways to cut corners & still provide for the kids. Things are finally getting back on track and I realized just how much I missed the book blogging community as I started to go through my Google Reader.
Here is what I’ve read this month:
98. Shadowcry by Jenna Burtenshaw-2.5 stars
99. The Borgia Betrayal-3.5 stars
100. The Mephisto Covenant by Trinity Faegen-3 stars
101. As I Wake by Elizabeth Scott-2.5 stars
102. Fateful by Claudia Gray-4 stars
103. Dark Predator by Christine Feehan-2.5 stars
104. Variant by Robison Wells-3 stars
105. The Highlander’s Heart by Amanda Forester-4 stars
I don’t think I’ve ever had a month with so many negative reviews and it might have contributed to my reading funk. I think Elizabeth Scott’s writing is just not for me as I know many others love her writing. Christine Feehan on the other hand was a big shock to me. I love her Ghostwalker books and have really been enjoying her more recent Carpathian books but the characters in Dark Predator were so unbelievably horrible I couldn’t believe it was passed off as a romance. It was more of a delusional woman stuck in an abusive relationship and thinking it was true love.
On a positive note I did get a chance to attend NCIBA last week. I picked up some awesome sounding books, got to reconnect with some local bloggers and met some amazing authors. I think my most exciting treasure was a copy of Under the Never Sky that I was able to get signed by Veronica at the conference! I also found out she is a local author from California.
I also picked up a book I never heard of before, Grave Mercy by R.L LaFevers, because the rep pitched it as the TV show Alias meets Game of Thrones. How could I pass it up?
I also attended a children’s author breakfast at the conference and met two other local authors who have debut books coming out that sound amazing. Gilt by Katherine Longshore, due out May 2012, and two books from Talia Vance, Silver is due out next year as well and Spies and Prejudice which is due out in 2013.

I know what you mean about the hubby being out of work a year. Mine was locked out of US Steel for 11 months and just got called back 2 weeks ago. Hopefully it is your hubby’s time for good news soon.
Happy November reading!

I know what you mean. When I read a few bad books in a row it is hard to get the motivation to read because I am just so disappointed with the experience. Plus, if I am reading them it is usually because someone I know has enjoyed them, so then I feel guilty I didn’t.

Freda-I’m so glad your husband got called back!
Kailana-I know what you mean! I feel like I’m missing something when I don’t enjoy as much as everyone else.
