Mini-Review: Hell Island by Matthew Reilly

I’m not sure how I missed this one when it first came out since I absolutely love the Scarecrow books.  Maybe because it was a novella and that all my local bookstores have closed down so I did not come across it while browsing.  When I found it in my library catalog (yay for libraries!) while looking up his latest book, Scarecrow Returns, I immediately requested it.

As a whole I’m not a huge fan of novellas because many times I feel like I do not get to know the characters well enough to really get to know them.  Luckily for series such as this one I’m already in love with Scarecrow and Mother so I enjoyed  the story but it did not blow me away.  It was a quick read filled with the typical fabulously unbelievable situations and solutions to every situation that are familiar to all fans of the Scarecrow series.

If you missed this one and are eager to read Scarecrow returns you can do so without any problems.  It’s not long after the horrendous death of Scarecrow’s girlfriend and his near breakdown.  He is just getting back onto his feet and proving that he is fit to return to action but readers don’t get to hear the details of his recovery until Scarecrow Returns. So if you have a couple hours to spare this is a fun read but not crucial to following the series.
